In 1973, my friend and I ran to see if people were ok as a result of a car hitting a telephone pole. We were a good 20 feet from the road, in a neighbors yard. 2 off duty parametics stopped to see if they could help as well. Meanwhile, 2 cars collided in the intersection, and one of the drivers panicked, and hit the gas pedal. She plowed into 4 of us, killing my best friend hitting me and then dragging both parametics on her front bumper only to slam into a parked car in a driveway. She crushed one man at the knees and the other at his pelvis. They were maimed for life. I got off the lightest with a concussion and a compound fracture of my fibula and tibula. After time and perhaps medicine not being what it is now, my leg tilts in 15 degees. After 38 years of activity, my inner knee is worn and starting to hurt more frequently. It was suggested by an orthoped to cut my fibula and tibula, screw a plate to straighten them, and hope it helps my knee joint. He expressed complications like healing issues, nerve damage, etc.. I asked if he would consider a knee replacement and compensate for my leg being on an angle. He was open to it but pointed out the lack of longevity of the joint for a 50 year old. I have made an appointment for a second opinion. He gave me a cortisone shot and results arent apparent yet. I'm very concerned about what the future holds.
